Mobile Legends lag and high ping: what to try

In Mobile Legends, most lag is network lag, so the first Mobile Legends lag fix to try is a steadier connection. Test your ping on Wi-Fi and mobile data before you queue, choose the one that stays steady, and stop downloads on your phone and at home. If team fights stutter even when ping is fine, lower the graphics and keep the phone cool.

Why ping matters so much in a MOBA

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a MOBA, short for multiplayer online battle arena. Every skill, movement and last hit has to travel to the server and back. When that trip is slow or uneven, your hero moves late, skills fire after you tapped them, and a perfect combo misses.

The game shows your ping during a match, often with a colour that changes as it gets worse. Learn to read it:

  • Low and steady. Under about 50 ms usually feels responsive.
  • Higher but steady. Up to around 100 ms is playable, though you may notice delays in close fights.
  • Jumping around. Sudden spikes are the real problem, even if the average looks fine. Our post on ping spikes and packet loss explains why.

Mobile Legends lag fix: the network steps

  1. Test both connections before you queue. Check Wi-Fi and mobile data from the spot where you play. Neither is always better.
  2. Pick the steadier one. A connection that holds at a slightly higher ping beats one that spikes.
  3. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi near the router. If your router offers a 5 GHz band and you are in the same room, it is usually less crowded than 2.4 GHz. Our guide to 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz Wi-Fi for gaming explains when each is better.
  4. Stop other traffic. App updates, cloud backups, video streaming and big downloads all compete with the game. Pause them on your phone, and ask others at home if you can.
  5. Turn off Data Saver. It can restrict how apps use data. See whether Data Saver is causing lag.
  6. Turn off your VPN. A VPN adds an extra stop between you and the server.
  7. Restart the router if your Wi-Fi has been unstable all day. It clears temporary problems.

When ping is high only at certain times

If your ping is fine in the morning but bad at night, the cause may be outside your home. Evening is when many people stream and play at once, and some networks get congested. Our article on why ping gets worse in the evening covers what you can and cannot do about that.

Try playing a match at a different time and compare. If the pattern is clear and it happens every day, it is worth raising with your internet provider.

When team fights stutter but ping is fine

Sometimes the network is fine and the phone is the problem. You will notice it most in big five-versus-five fights, when every hero uses skills at once.

  1. Lower graphics quality. Choose a smooth or low preset first.
  2. Turn off HD or high-quality options if your phone struggles with them.
  3. Choose a frame rate the phone holds. A high frame rate mode is only worth it if the phone stays steady in team fights.
  4. Turn off extra effects such as shadows and outlines if your version offers that choice.
  5. Keep the phone cool. Remove a thick case for long sessions and avoid charging while playing if it gets hot.
  6. Turn off battery saver. It can limit the processor and screen refresh rate.

Option names change between updates, so look for the graphics and frame rate sections in the game's settings rather than exact labels.

Small things that cause big problems

  • Notifications. A message banner can cover your skill buttons. Turn on Do Not Disturb.
  • Switching apps. Leaving the game to reply to a message can lead to a reconnect, which is a disaster in ranked. Stay in the game until the match ends.
  • Bluetooth earbuds. They add a short audio delay, which can throw off timing based on sound.
  • Full storage. A nearly full phone loads slower and can stutter when the game writes data.

What will not fix Mobile Legends lag

  • Apps that promise to lower your ping. No app can make the route to the game server shorter or faster.
  • Apps that promise more FPS. No ordinary app can raise another game's frame rate.
  • Changing the game's files with outside tools, which can break the game's rules and risk your account.

How CyberBoost helps

CyberBoost is a gaming HUD and game-mode app. Its dual ping test measures Wi-Fi and mobile data at the same time, so you can choose the steadier network before a ranked match. After the match, the match report shows ping spikes and disconnects from your session, which helps you see whether a loss was the connection. A Ranked mode can turn on Do Not Disturb so nothing pops up over your skills.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Mobile Legends ping red even on fast Wi-Fi?

Fast Wi-Fi is about download speed; ping is about delay and stability. A busy or distant network can be fast and still have high or spiky ping.

Is mobile data better than Wi-Fi for Mobile Legends?

Sometimes. It depends on your signal and your home network. Test both right before playing and choose the steadier one.

Why does Mobile Legends lag only in team fights?

Team fights are the busiest moments for the phone. Lower graphics, choose a frame rate the phone can hold and keep it cool.

Does restarting my phone fix Mobile Legends lag?

It can help if something in the background is using the network or the phone is warm. It will not fix a congested network.
